Vision, Mission, and Principles of DICTS

In line with the overall UCCs strategic vision, DICTS is to integrate and implement and support modern information technology and information systems, processes, training and IT skills development that will help broaden the horizon of students and deliver innovative ICT services and e-learning, ICT development across the University.

DICTS will develop and implement distinctive integrated management information systems, network/infrastructure and communication systems, and training and skills development for students, staff and professionals. Our mission is therefore to ensure UCC students, staff and professionals are supported with appropriate technology and facilities for Teaching and Learning, Research, Outreach, Administration and ICT Services. This is to ensure value for money and make a difference in technology by engaging and empowering staff and students to use information technology tools to access and share knowledge and information.

The effective implementation strategy of DICTs is guided by the following principles:

Importance: Appropriate technology and processes to be identified and agreed upon by management for the various sections and activities of the University.

Leadership: Visibility focusing on innovation in the delivery of cutting edge technology and leading the digital agenda of the University.

Practicality: The capacity of the University in terms of infrastructure and other resources. Realistic measures are instituted and geared towards improving on strengthening existing services.

Cost-effectiveness: Use of the most cost-effective means to achieve desired results.

Synergy: All sectors of the University are able to respond positively to technology issues since the performance of each sector has implications for the outcome of teaching, learning, research, management, governance and the output of the University, especially graduates.

Partnership: A conscious effort for collaboration internally and externally with all entities (management, staff and students) and (other universities, industry and service providers).

Security and Privacy: Develop privacy and Computer security, information retrieval, storage and delivery of information to assist in combating threats computer/cyber attacks at the University

Drive: The strategy will be reviewed annually to respond to local, national and global ICT trends.
